I am a Dart frog owner from Hong Kong, I just got my first pair of darts a week ago!(Extremely Excited) A good looking pair of adult Dendrobates Auratus Taboga, which seems well fed and plumped upon arrival. I've got them into a 10 Gallon vivarium for the time being, perimeters are 27-degree c during the day and 24-degree c during night, 80%+ humidity all the time. I am planning to put them into a more permanent 20 Gallon tank in the future.
I've done some research prior to buying these frogs, I know Tabogas were always gonna be shy frogs, so I've been trying to give them as much privacy as possible, the back of the vivarium is heavily planted, I've got a flower pot that I cut in half for them as shelter but they've hardly used it. I've only been opening the tank door once or twice each day for misting and feeding, I also covered the sides with black paper to give them more privacy. At the moment, the male seems to be a tiny bit bolder, though still very elusive in the tank, while the female I hardly ever see, only occasionally see it for a few seconds out in the open. Both are not very active at the moment.
I've been feeding them once every other day, with around 25 flies each time. However, everytime I mist, I still see around 10 flies in the tank, I imagine there will be some that I couldn't see. I am sure they've eaten a few, I've seen a few droppings, but I am just concern they are not getting enough food!:( they still seems plumped for now (well the male is, I am not sure about the female), but I am sure if they don't eat well their weight will decrease pretty soon. I just want to know if any other dart frogs owners have experience similar acclimation issues with their darts when they started? How long will this last for in general? Also, any other Auratus Taboga owner can kindly share their setup and experience with this morph? I am sure I can learn a lot!
Sorry for the long post! Any advice appreciated!:)
