65 gallon reef ready tank help

So I recently just picked up a 65 gallon RR tank that was previously used aas a reef tank and had a few questions about how to convert it to a viv. It will be housing a trio of leucs when finished.

First, it has a corner overflow box, could anyone tell me pros/cons of keeping it vs taking it out? There are two holes drilled behind it that will be used as a drain and return. I would like to incorporate some type of water feature in the tank, but have not decided on what kind (pond, stream, small "waterfall"), and was wondering if the box may be beneficial enough for that to keep it. It could also be used to hide wires, plumbing for misters, fog etc.

Secondly, if I were to keep it, does anyone know a good method to get all of the hardened coraline algae off of it and out from that middle gap in it? Also how to get it and the stains off of the glass as well?

Thanks for the help guys.
