some observations about my ffs

I bought some d. hydei several months ago and nearly lost the entire culture bc i was on vacay and they ate all the food.

I am getting the culture back up to size but are noticing some genetic anomalies in there.

for one they fly which after seeing them in the container i released the flying ones outside.

I have heard this is due to heat and due to a flying ff getting in the mix.

when releasing them I seen an anomaly....my hydei were black but near the bottom of the culture were some larger hydei that are not black.......they looked gold but with underdeveloped wings and they do not care to approach the top of the container.

like the wings were too small for the size of the body. is this just a stage of adult growth however I thought the adults were fully formed after hatching out of the cocoons?

I guess i can try keeping them cooler to see if it is a protein deal. but I suppose I can try to isolate the weird ones so they can only breed with each other and release the flying ones.

thoughts?

im going to get a new culture bc ultimately I feel this one is contaminated.
